SEAFOODNEWS.COM [JAPAN REPORTS] Tokyo - June 19, 2015
Japanese traders say shrimp prices in the domestic market have bottomed out and are poised to increase into July due to the weak yen and thin supplies.
Some weaker shrimp prices in Japan have already started to tick up according to traders. White shrimp prices from Vietnam, for example, are up to Y1,800 per kilo (US$14.66) for 31/40 count size with expectations that the market has room to go higher.
The outlook for Japan's shrimp market situation contrasts current trends in the US where prices continue to decline. Analysts say the weak yen compared to the strong US dollar will push up shrimp prices in Japan this summer.
Thinner supplies from lower shrimp imports are also expected to contribute to higher prices in the Japanese market
