Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today said that Rs 400 crore was allocated for the development of fisheries sector and AP is the first state in the country to announce a new aquaculture policy. The Chief Minister, while reviewing the primary sector mission for double digit growth here, the Chief Secretary and a host of secretaries and District Collectors attended, said that Andhra Pradesh had stood first in the production of fish and shrimp in the country and contributing 46 per cent to the total aqua production in the country. Stating that double digit growth in the aqua sector needed to be achieved, he said that Rs 400 crore was allocated for the shrimp culture development and new fisheries police was also formulated for its growth. Fisheries sector was an important allied sector to the agriculture sector, he added. Mr Naidu said that there is need for the development of fish seed centres and suggested that fish seed Centre should be developed in 5.30 lakh acres to supply fish seed to farmers. He regretted that there were no fish processing units in the state and they need to be developed. He said that the government had extended Rs 4,000 to 87,000 fishermen families during the period the fishing was banned.UNI DP AY AY RJ NS2255
