IFFO, the trade association for the global marine ingredients industry, is recruiting to replace our existing Technical Director who retires at the end of 2015.
Overview:
Responsible for managing the regulatory, fishery and production related services to IFFO members as part of the IFFO senior management team. Based at the IFFO Head Office in London. The position offers variety, worldwide travel and being part of a small, flexible team within a successful and respected organisation
Relationships:
Reports to: Director General
Liaison with: Operations Director, China Director, Chief Analyst, IFFO members, NGO’s, government and UN agencies, other stakeholders and general public

Main tasks of job:
- Participate in the Senior Management Team to achieve the vision and implement strategy, delivering added value to members and supporting the long term success of the organisation.
- Lead the delivery of services to members relating to nutritional and production related information, regulatory controls in main markets, standards and certification.
- Lead strategy relating to the fish/animal feed industry, adding value to members in that sector and attracting new membership.
- Establish policies and practices that ensure a high level of member services and attainment of member satisfaction that will lead to the retention of members
- Management of the technical sessions within the IFFO annual conference and members’ meetings, including recruitment of presenters.
- Provide input to the Market Information System, advising on Feed Conversion Ratios, inclusion rates and other technical data to allow calculation of statistics.
- Proposal of technical projects including budget preparation, implementation of approved projects. Preparation of technical reports and communication to members.
- Represent IFFO on the governing body of IFFO RS Ltd and act as the main liaison for certification and standard setting. This requires becoming a director of IFFO RS Ltd and carries legal liabilities under the UK Companies Act 2006.
- Liaise with international bodies and trade associations, including the European Commission, UN Food & Agriculture Organisation, European Food Safety Agency, FEFAC and GOED.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by organisational needs and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum ten years experience of animal feed industry, particularly aquaculture diets
- Understanding of fishery management, environmental NGO’s and sustainability trends
- Ability to undertake long haul travel, working remotely on mobile basis.
- Ability to present information to groups of IFFO members and other stakeholders at conferences, seminars and other occasions.
- Technical report writing
- Ability to prepare information for media release
- Ability to work within a small team
- Knowledge of Spanish (not mandatory).
Other:
The position is full time and permanent and is eligible for a contributory pension, 25 days paid annual leave and a discretionary, performance-related bonus. The appointment will be subject to a 3 month probationary period, after which time a contract of permanent employment will be offered.
