Vietnam’s aquaculture exports listed among world top five

NDO – Vietnam has been listed among the top five leading aquaculture producers and exporters in the world, announced by the Centre for Industry and Trade Information under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The country’s aquaculture production reached nearly US$8 billion in 2014; meanwhile export turnover recorded 6.8 million tonnes, an increase of 40% since 2009.
Accordingly, shrimp exports reached their highest peak last year, accounting for 50% of total exports throughout the fishery sector.
Vietnam’s exports markets have been expanded, especially after the country signed free trade agreements (FTA) with the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Eurasian Economic Union (comprising of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan). Aquaculture products are currently exported to 164 countries and territories worldwide.
After the US, EU and Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK) has the fourth largest aquaculture imports market in the world, Vietnam is among three leading aquaculture exporters to the RoK. Aquaculture exports to the RoK have seen a remarkable increase with 19% per year.
The fishery sector created more than 4.5 million jobs for local workers around the country.
