Aquaculture Planning Manager
Full-time - Hobart, Tasmania
The Role
Applications are invited from individuals in Aquaculture Planning roles, with five to ten years solid experience, to fill this position which reports to the General Manager – Planning & Commercial.  The position will be based at Huon's corporate office in Hobart, but will require regular travel to all hatchery and marine sites throughout Tasmania.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of fish performance, growth measures, possess strong data interpretation skills and the ability to extrapolate reasoning.  Success in this role will require in-depth knowledge of the interaction and interrelated dependencies between marine and freshwater environments and sales and processing requirements.
Key deliverables
The role will manage the review and editing of the growth models and initiate and monitor the ongoing position of fish performance versus forecast to maintain the business's five (5) year planning cycle.  This involves monthly preparation of production reports, undertaking review meetings with sales and aquaculture operations to adjust key forecasts to balance sales with harvest schedules, and the monitoring of fish growth, feed conversion ratios and mortality rates.
Support deliverables
The role will also support Huon in the development and implementation of facilities planning – encompassing bath net, pen and lease requirements which includes monthly reviews and provision of operational and technical comments to key internal customers.  Working with relevant colleagues to collect and compile data and information on status, key threats, and issues related to fish performance and present field data gathered for further analysis and communication.  Monitor issues and trends in related fields, topics and issues relevant to related projects including recommend corrective actions.

You must be flexible, adaptable and thrive in a fast paced working environment. You will be comfortable delivering immediate and accurate responses and recommendations within tight deadlines, as well as influencing and informing key stakeholders for corrective measures and adjustments, with a focus on continuous improvement. You will work well with cross functional teams, confidently interacting and communicating with marine, hatchery, processing and sales teams, to develop long term harvest and sales plans.
Key proficiencies and qualifications
You must keep up to date with both domestic and international industry developments and hold a Bachelor's degree in aquaculture, agriculture or environmental science. You will have demonstrated proficiency with Fishtalk or equivalent aquaculture management databases, Neptune (or equivalent optimisation model for fish growth and performance) and have a high level excel and data management skills (pivot tables, data analysis).
Preferred candidates are subject to a pre-employment medical and a urine based drug test.
