Promising Potential for Shrimp Farming in India's Kerala After Bountiful Test Harvest

The first-ever vannamei shrimp culture in the State by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies has yielded a bumper crop raising the prospects of the white leg shrimp culture spreading rapidly given its commercial potential.
Fisheries Minister K. Babu, who inaugurated the shrimp harvest at Kufos Puthuvype Fisheries Station, pronounced the experiment a resounding success as he said that Fisheries Department would extent all help to future farmers.
He said that vannamei shrimp culture was suited to Kerala’s coastal climatic conditions and held out great promise for the future.
